The sad situation of too many children of latino immigrants

In this Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle, reporter Joan Ryan wrote an article http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2007/07/08/CMGCOQJDJF1.DTL about an 11 year old girl living with her Grandmother, mother, sister, niece and sometimes her sisters ex boyfriend, in one room. Her sister got pregnant at 14 and it's only a matter of time until the subject of the story gets pregnant as well. Probably she will get pregnant by her sister's boyfriend since he is around. Otherwise there are no men in the picture at all. Immigrant advocates would have us believe that Latino men are primarily interested in supporting their families, but I don't buy it. They bring their families over here, desert them, and the American tax payers end up supporting them.
