How Miss C spent her Saturday and Sunday

My co-worker put on a 3-D Creature from the Black Lagoon film festival at the Castro Theater in SF. The man who wore the creature suit and the female lead were guests. Ben Chapman was the original Creature. They did an interview with him between films and his most interesting story was about being a Marine in Korea during the Korean war. Mr Chapman was born in Tahiti but moved to California and joined the US Marines. He was in the battle of Chosin, where the Marines became surrounded by 20,000 Chinese soldiers intent on annihilating the US Marine corps. I was in heaven listening to this elegant and brave man. He definately stood out from the crowd of selfish hedonists at the Castro Theater.

Sunday I went to see, American Hardcore. Stupid people, cool music. Especially the Bad Brains, a Black punk band! They were from another planet entirely. Awesome band. It's lucky for the white punks that Blacks didn't get more into Punk Rock, because Blacks would have totally dominated that genre as well.http://www.sonyclassics.com/americanhardcore/

Well, if Castro Theater is in Castro St. BTW, who/what is Castro?

That "Creature" afternoon was fun but Jesus Christ when you pay $16 (OUCH!) for admission, don't you deserve better 3-D glasses than those cardboard shitters (worth about a dime!). Yeah they had the marginally better plastic variety (worth about a quarter!) on sale for $4.00 (OUCH AGAIN!). That is the same type they used to give you for free or 25 cents in the old 3-D days. Seems like theaters will go out their way to rip you off nowadays! Focus could have been a little better too. The art of good projection seems to be a lost art though, even at the Castro. Things only got worse at the 3-D Festival. "Gorilla at Large" on Tuesday night had totally distorted sound, a result of new sound readers on the projectors that are not compatible with certain older soundtracks.

Buff, yes, the glasses sucked and my friend who wears glasses could not keep hers on over her regular ones. I started to get very nauseated from mine. My friend that sponsored the Creature segment of the 3D festival claims that the night showing had a better projectionist. It did cost a lot to have the guests and they charged a high price to recoup that fee.

J.Doe, Castro is probably, Don Castro, a famous Spanish landowner that owned most of the Bay Area at one time. He used to own the area they call Castro Valley. It was a big ranch. Him and Peralta.

Don Guillermo Castro to be exact! Or maybe Castro street was named for the Mexican general Miguel Castro. Your people were everywhere in those days J. Doe. You guys were so cool. I wished I lived in the Californio times.
