The only thing that amazes me is that there should be anything "controversial" about the reasons Fred gives for third world backwardness.
The real question is: are we joining the third world? Example: in the depths of the great depression the Empire State Building was built in 400 days. Six years after 9/11 there's still a hole in the ground where the World Trade Center stood.
Yes, we are! Here in the bay area it is like the third world exactly. IAs I walk down the street I see al around me the sad behavior Fred writes
