Lefties mad that Wal-Mart is "telling" its employees how to vote

They are mad because it's telling its employees to vote Republican. Lefties think it is unfair for Wal-mart to suggest to its employees that they vote for a candidate friendly to Wal-mart's interests. It is mentioned in the article that Wal-mart does not want its employees to become unionized.

The irony is this, unions have always been engaged in telling thier members how they should vote. And they always tell members to vote for Democrats

Not an election goes by that my union does not bombard me with phones calls and emails and flyers and letters telling me to vote for some filthy rich Democrat. Nearly always, their favorite candidate is a stinking rich Democrat of the far left persuasion.

Insofar as you recognize that the interests of the corporation and the laborers often diverge, its not at all inconsistent for "lefties" to complain about wal-mart's attempt to tell its employees how to vote and their acceptance of unions telling how members should vote. The union identifies candidates it believes help the workers. Wal-mart identifies candidates that help shareholders. An ideal candidate for Wal-mart is anti-union, opposes minimum wage legislation and would fight any sort of health insurance tooth and nail. Underpaid laborers would just love that platform, I'm sure.

That begs the question, if the employess of wal-mart have it so rough, why do they work there? If they are such valuable members of the workforce, surely they could find other jobs that pay benefits. I actually went to wal-mart on Saturday (with my lefty lesbian neighbor and her Black adopted grandson, by the by) and as usual the majority of people who shop there are minorities, the majority of those are Latinos. They would be seriously stretched financially if wal-mart did not keep its prices down. Also, wal-mart employees get a discount which takes them farther when it comes to buying power. I am not saying that they are going to put their kids through college on their salaries, but their kids will qualify for grants that higher income families will not. If you think that union employees are not working for their self interest, you are deluded. More members, more dues, more power.
