I am glad they've decided to call it civil war!
Now there can be a clear winner and a clear loser. A civil war ends when one side has been decisively defeated. The Sunnis are not engaged in an insurgency, they are trying to recapture their previous dominance over the people of Iraq and the monopolization of power and oil revenues.

Hope springs eternal in your heart Gary. In your hatred of America, you are ever hopeful of her defeat. May I suggest that you move to another country, France for instance, you will be much happier there. you can sit around in cafes and dis on the US.
To the contrary, I wish that there were a way that we could "win" this war. Don't blame those of us who have been proven right about the Iraq war--blame the idiots that have prosecuted it.
You seem to be suggesting that we should pick sides in the Iraqi civil war and back the Shiites, which of course puts us on the same side as Iran.
The big winner in Iraq: Iran.
I do choose the Shiites. the Sunnis are murderous bastards who killed thousands of Iranians and Iraqis and continue to do so, with the help of their brainwashed Saudi lap dogs. Iran and Iraq are talking again after years of war.
As for winning the war, I do not believe that anyone on the left wishes for good things to happen in Iraq, you are too invested in the destruction of your own country and Bush. The left takes unholy pleasure from every death in Iraq, both American and Iraqi.
The left is slavering over the death and destruction, because the left is evil and thrives on murder, it always has been and always will be. You can't have enough murdering and purging. Your ideology has killed millions and will continue to do so.
The main difference between Shiites and Sunnis in this war seems to be this: the Sunnis behead their victims, the Shiites use power drills.
You know I really get pissed off by rightwingers that accuse "liberals" of hating America when we disagree with a policy. I opposed this war because I thought it would be bad for America, which it has been. May I assume that there was a time, perhaps during the Clinton years, that you disagreed with administration policy? Did we liberals accuse you of treason or hating America? I think not. Accusing your political opponents of treason is un-American. Do I accuse you of treason for supporting Iran's side in a civil war?
I do say that the left hates America. It is apparent in every thing you say and do. As I said, your ideology is the ideology that has been proven to be the most dangerous. Over and over again. What about the word socialist in the Nazi party don't you understand? How about Stalin and Pol Pot. A majority of Americans say the situation for U.S. troops in Iraq has grown worse and confidence in U.S. policies in Iraq is at a new low, a Harris poll shows.
Fifty-eight percent of U.S. adults say the situation for troops in Iraq is getting worse, according to the online survey from Nov. 13 to Nov. 20, 2006, compared with 45% in September and 36% in January. Nine percent said the situation for troops in Iraq is getting better, while 27% said there was "no real change."
The percentage who are confident U.S. policies in Iraq will be successful fell to 17% from 26% in January, while those who aren't confident increased to 63% from 55% at the first of the year.
In addition, more Americans have a negative view of President Bush's handling of Iraq over the last several months: 71% said he is doing only fair or poor, compared with 26% who think he is doing a pretty good or excellent job. In September, 64% had a negative view of Mr. Bush's handling of Iraq and 32% rated him positively.
When asked if taking military action against Iraq was the right or wrong thing to do, 36% said it was the right thing and 46% said it was the wrong thing.

As for you anon. We are not trying to control the oil, the Sunnis are. It does not belong to them, it belongs to the Shia and the Kurds. Saddam stole it, with terror and murder. We are giving it back to its rightful owners to sell and make money with.
