would not swear on the bible. Miss C does not believe in the Lord, but it is no skin off her back to swear on a stack of bibles should she be called upon to do so.
People like this are either dumb as rocks or they're being deliberately difficult. Everyone knows that swearing that you'll be impartial (I assume that's what members of the jury swear to) is a formality. You'll either listen to the testimony with an open mind...or you won't. Swearing on a bible won't change your integrity, or lack thereof. But for the life of me I can't remember whether I had to take an oath when I served on jury duty. I don't think I did. Maybe it varies from state to state?
